PhD-Position in T Cell Immunology: Viral Hepatitis C and Hepatocellular Carcinoma at University of Bern, Switzerland

Our group is investigating the role of T cell immunology in viral hepatitis such as Hepatitis C (HCV) and in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), respec-tively. Several studies have shown the important role of T cells in elimination and immunopathogenesis of HCV infection. In HCC, Alpha-Fetoprotein (AFP) is overexpressed in 50% of the patients. In the mouse model, the in-duction of T cell responses were associated with significant protective anti-tumoral T cell responses. The aim of this project is to achieve new aspects in HCV-specific CD4+ T cell responses in chronic and eliminated HCV infection as well as HCC-specific CD4+…

PhD Position on the Global Biogeochemical Cycle of Selenium at Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, Switzerland

The offered PhD position is part of an interdisciplinary research project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation that aims to advance understanding of the global biogeochemical cycle of selenium. Selenium is an element that is naturally occurring in the environment and of key importance to human health. In the frame of this project two work programs have been defined that address important open questions concerning natural sources, emissions, speciation and fate of selenium in the environment. Each work program represents the topic of one doctoral thesis. will be part of the first work program, which targets to…

PhD Research in Biochemical Ecotoxicology at Eawag, Switzerland

EDA-EMERGE aims at training a new generation of young scientists in the interdisciplinary techniques required to meet the major challenges in the monitoring, assessment and management of toxic pollution in European river basins, taking into account the enormous complexity of contamination, effects and cause-effect relationships. By integrating innovative mode-of-action based biodiagnostic tools including in vitro tests, transgenic organisms and “omics” techniques with powerful fractionation and cutting edge analytical and computational structure elucidation tools, a new generation of effect directed analysis approaches will be developed for the identification of toxicants in European surface and drinking waters. Your background should…
